(photo placeholder)   Firstname Lastname, MAPP ‘07. Several sentences bio.  You can write over these words. Here is a suggested general format of the bio:
First sentence: what do you do now?  Second sentence: what have you done before? Third sentence: what is your educational background?
(You can put in more detail if you wish, but you do not need to.  Thanks.)

Then please type in your own bio in place of these words.
d) Below the box where you type, there will be three buttons: “Save and Continue Editing,” “Save”, and “Publish.”  Click on “Save and Continue Editing” for now.

Technical:
a) Making “no comments” and “no pings”:
On the right-hand side, you will see the word Discussion.  Below it, please REMOVE the checkmarks next to “Allow Comments” and “Allow Pings”.  (Why? Because we do not need your bio to be pinged every time you write an article on this website.)
b) Changing the Category:
On the right-hand side, you will see the word Categories.  Please make sure that “All” and “Author Bios” are checked off.
c) Making the date January 1, 2007.
On the right-hand side, you will see the words Post Timestamp.  Please check off “Edit timestamp,” and please set the date to January 1, 2007.  (Why? Because all the bios are dated before the articles start on Jan 1.)

Finally:
You will need to click “Publish” to finish and post this to the website.  Then WAIT after you click “Publish” - it takes about a minute for it to publish.  You will see the message on bright yellow, “Post saved.”

To see the website, at the top where it says, Pos-Psych.com “View Site>>>” , Click on “View Site>>>“.  YOU’RE DONE!

(Also, here is the Wordpress help page on Posting an Article).
(Here you can click on any of the author bios to see examples of them).
(Note: If you want to add a link to any part of your post, read this).

FIRST TIME:
How to Add Your Bio’s Photo
a) If you have a photo of your self that is 120 width x 180 height pixels in size, then please upload the photo, and insert it in that area where the photo placeholder is.
b) Otherwise, just email me the photo you want to use, and I’ll upload it to your bio and also to your mini-bio the first time you create a mini-bio at the end of your articles.

MONTHLY POSTINGS:
How To Post an Article
1) Write Your Article in Word. Copy-Paste it into Notepad (to remove all font and paragraph formatting).
2) Login to PPND.
3) Write a post.
>>> 3a) From your Dashboard, click on Write a Post.
>>> 3b) Write a Title for your article.
>>> 3c) Copy-Paste the entire article from Notepad into the box below Post.
>>> 3d) Click “Save and Continue Editing.”
4) Add images, tables, links to your post.  Especially if you’re decribing a book, you can link to that book on Amazon.  Or add a link if you’re describing a previous article on PPND by someone else.
5) Choose your Categories.  Please make sure that “All” continues to be checked off.
6) Add your mini-bio and mini-photo.
7) Click “Publish.”

8) Your article is now published.  As long as you’re still logged in, you will see the word “Edit” near your by-line.  If you have formatting issues (spacing, size, etc.), you can click “Edit,” go back into the article, and make the formatting changes.

MONTHLY POSTINGS:
How to Pre-Set a Publication Date
If you are writing the article in advance of the date you want it to appear, then you can pre-set the publication date.  (Do this only for your convenience.  Don’t do this because you’re hesitate to post on May 5 for a May 6 article date… it doesn’t matter much to me if you post a few hours before your date on a date different from your monthly date.  This instruction is just for your convenience if you want it.)
When you are writing your article, on the right-hand side, you will see the words Post Timestamp.  Please check off “Edit timestamp,” and please set the date and time to whatever date and time you want the article to be published.
Once you do this, the only way to edit your article after that is to go back to your Dashboard, then choose “Manage” as one of the top tabs.  Find your article in the Manage section, and then edit it.

MONTHLY POSTINGS:
How to Add Your Mini-Bio and Mini-Photo
a) The first time, I will do it for you (so that you don’t have to deal with formatting).
b) Every time after that, please go to your previous article, copy the mini-bio and mini-photo (for example, if you’re Margaret, you would copy-paste the entire part below), and paste it directly into the bottom of your new article.

Margaret Greenberg Margaret Greenberg founded The Greenberg Group — an organizational effectiveness consulting practice — in 1997.  Margaret specializes in coaching executives and teams using a strengths-based approach.  Margaret’s bio.

Margaret writes on the 14th of each month, and her past articles are here.

MONTHLY POSTINGS Optional:
How to Add a Link (or Links) to Your Article
EXAMPLE:  David Pollay runs the Momentum Group.
* Highlight the words you want to creat a link to
EXAMPLE: David Pollay runs the Momentum Group.
* Click on the link icon in the bar above where you are typing:
* In the space for ‘Link URL’, type in http://www.themomentumgroup.com/.
* In the space for ‘Target,’ I always suggest that you choose “Open link in a new window” so that your article remains opened, but it doesn’t really matter which you choose here.
* In the space for ‘Title,’ you could give a few words that will appear when someone hovers over the linked words (optional and I usually don’t do this).
* Then click “Insert” at the bottom of that box.  You have created a link.

MONTHLY POSTINGS Optional:
How to Add a Picture, Image, or Chart
In short, while you’re posting an article, see the section immediately below:
Upload.  Upload the image you want to insert, give it a title.  Once it is uploaded, click into the document in the area to which you want to upload it, choose Browse All, find the image, and select “Send to editor.”  Stretch it by its corner to the size you want.
(This is really tough to describe in words, but you may need to change the name of the image to remove the word “thumbnail” from the image name - it seems to get added there automatically.)  If all else fails, email images to me, ok?
Here are wordpress instructions on how to add an image.

How can I find breaking news in psychology to write about?

  • APA press releases - APA only releases those items which it thinks are interesting, so this is a good source.  Frequency: averages 1 article per one-two weeks.  This is not all the news in psychology, but just the news that the APA wants to publicize.
  • Psychology in the News - Many AP and United Press International entries are here in this list of psychology in the news.  Frequency: averages 2-4 new articles per day.
  • There are topic-specific pages for those topics that are relevant to positive psychology (caveat: there is a lot of psychology-as-usual content in here as well):
    Emotional Health
    Learning and Memory
    Workplace Issues
    Stress
    Children and Families
List of all topics (even the non-positive-psychology-related ones) here
  • List of APA journals - A bit difficult to sort through, but definitely interesting articles.  Everything requires a subscription except for the abstracts, so you’d still need to go back to our trusty resarch sourse…
  • PsychINFO!
