I have been trying to figure out what the book is that morgan freeman reads in his hospital bed. Something to do with bartolome de las casas. I had looked it up after seeing the movie and now I forget what it is and have no access to the book. Does anyone know??

What was the book that Morgan Freeman incourages Jack Nicholson to read? It is a classic that I missed in my literature class.

I'm sorry not to reply, but I appreciate Mark's stepping up with the book title. The Bucket List isn't perfect, but it sure points people in the right direction.
All best,
Caroline

I saw the bucket list today and really enjoyed it! It reminds us that life is short and what really matters is doing our best to set and accomplish meaningful goals, and helping others to do the same.

In response to post 11, I believe the book is The Time of Your Life by William Saroyan. Try this:

Iam Venezuelan. I have seen the picture and really has impressed me very much. I think that most of us need, sometimes, to be close to die to really appreciate the life. I feel is necessary, even urgent, to improve positive thinking and this include everything. I thing that using new developments like Neurolinguistic Programminng, NPL, or Emotional Intelligence in the educational system, could help.
I have studied a NPL diplomate and I using it in myself to change my negativism way, Iam practicing now gratitude and this have changed my world perception.

Since Barquisimeto, Venezuela, my best and positive regards:

There is a book mentioned by Nicholson early in the movie. Freemon had read it and named the author. The book was about having a foundation and structure in life.

Can anyone name the book?

Thanks for all of your kind words! And I think there are many people who have learned from watching other people - both negatively and positively - and have made changes accordingly. I can't wait to see "The Bucket List," but it's not opening in the Washington DC area for another week or so. I think it will do good work for those of us who love goal setting strategies.

Happy New Year!

Caroline,

Loved your article about the Bucket List. Can't wait to see it. I also found it comforting to know there was someone else out there that was motivated by a parent's lack of motivation. I too had a Dad who talked more about his dreams than actually worked towards achieving them but I guess that was his choice. It has motivated me to work harder at achieving my own and I appreciate him for that amoung other things. From one bucket lister to another...Merry Christmas!

P.S. I liked your Goal Setting Tool (www.your100things.com)!

Dear Caroline,

Your website is a terrific resource for the public. I see you like Pay It Forward; I agree this is an important film on compassion and generosity - nice portrayal of a timeless life application. I've begun to look at films in terms of which of the 24 strengths does the protagonist character portray; our book is structured along these lines (films that exibit each strength). I'd be curious to hear about some of the films you found most striking in your MAPP courses. Our publisher for Positive Psychology at the Movies is Hogrefe & Hubor (www.hhpub.com).

I can be reached directly at rmjn@sbcglobal.net
Best wishes,
Ryan Niemiec
