Hi Emma,

I agree with our pals Dana and Caroline. Your article is clear, and you know I always like your graphics (remember your first version of your capstone?).

What are your thoughts about how Gallup defines engagement and how it connects to the above model? I'd love to hear your ideas.

Best to the W-J family!

Hi Caroline,

Cultural differences are always interesting and having worked on this stuff on both sides of the Atlantic I think there are definitely differences in how one might deliver and implement the strategy to engage employees in their work, but I think that at a more fundamental level the same basic 'levers' can be used - that's just based on my experience though - not an empirical study !

Hi Dana,

This idea came from a presentation I did to a group of change agents at a conference and then I was able to give specific ideas of what I mean in each area - I totally agree with you about the meaning in work and at work as defined by Pratt and Ashforth in POS - I think it is a really useful distinction which can help in the design of employee engagement strategies.

Hi Emma!

I agree with Caroline on the visuals, nice job! Also, I had a thought about the meaning IN vs. meaning AT distinction--for the satisfaction that comes from the meaning that we get from our friendships at work, perhaps that's meaning AT work, vs. meaning IN work, which might be tied more to the degree to which we resonate with the company's mission? Hope all is well in the UK :) Aloha, Dana

Hi Emma,
Excellent piece, thanks. The diagrams make it easier for visual learners to grasp your message. I also agree that no one approach, including Positive Psych, has all the answers, but you make a compelling case for why it's part of the solution to employee engagements. Are you aware of any cultural differences on this topic?
