[...] In her article Feel Better Faster, Learn More Effectively: Use Your Mood-Repair Tool Kit, Sherri Fisher [Positive Psychology News Daily] notes that “Emotions benefit and strengthen learning. The emotional feedback system can help you reflect on what did not go as well as expected so that you can identify and use a different approach, or if things went well, it can help you repeat the scope and/or sequence of behaviors next time if you want a similar (good) outcome.” [...]

Hi, Senia--

Thanks for the nice comments.

Interesting that you mentioned ABCDE. There is a third piece to the new study and that is about how the tool kit informs self-regulation. It involves evaluating an event, choosing behaviors. Then you anticipate a future event, and by developing a personalized way of using your cognitive skill set, you get more of what you want, in this case, more PE. Sounds like an integrated approach that balances the B and the C as well.

Maybe next month I will look at a blend of this approach with ABCDE ;-)

Cheers,
Sherri

Love this article, Sherri!!!

Love that you're all about the mood repair kit. Love that you give us a lot of tools at the end. Love the red toolbox! This is an interesting Baumeister study. It sounds similar to the D in the ABCDE method and the APE method to get out of a bad mood. I also really really like that one of the main pieces of advice I read in your article is "take a moment." just be aware and take a moment, and don't rush, and kind-of reprogram yourself in the moment. Thanks, Sherri, for this info! Neat.
